This is my favourite book. And after reading many of the reviews I can see Im not the only one. What other books have people found that are this great?

Kim East of Eden is definitely a good one and has some similarities. I also think A Prayer for Owen Meany would be good after this.

Can you read this one before reading "The River Why" or is it much better to go in order?

When I finished Chapter 5, I thought the story had a good conclusion, with follow-up on the family, and their points in life. Then I read Chapter Six: Winter. Is that a foreshadowing of another story? Was there something in the magazine that gripped Irwin in a bad way? Was this a foreshadowing that Irwin was going to pursue farming organic vegetables? I am curious as to what other people thought of this ending.
