I can appreciate that readers found Gilbert's writing self-indulgent and many of her cultural descriptions are stereotypes, but this is not the point of this book. I feel if you read Eat, Pray, Love at the appropriate time in your life, it will have a profound effect on you. I was going through a very difficult time and I truly believe this book not only pulled me through it but enabled me to see a clear path forward. I treasure it dearly and have returned to it once since to get myself back on track. Yes, it did change my life. (less)

I am trying to figure out why so many despise this book. I found it delightful to read. I have an open mind and would love some insight. One reader said something along the lines of "... anyone who enjoyed this book is someone I consider an idiot..." Can someone please enlighten me?

The adventures seemed exciting, but the story wasn't my cup of tea. It's because of the way it'ss written, too much self-centered. And because of the main character, probably; even being a traveller myself I couldn't relate to Liz at all. I barely do this, but I had to drop the book.

I've got more questions :)...WHY Julia Roberts accepted to "be" Liz Gilbert? WHY money were wasted to make a movie out of this hypocritical diary? HOW can Liz Gilbert be such a phony? Are all American women like she is? Because it's puzzling me how such a moronic book could get such a publicity and make "the silent girl searching for God" sooo rich. Europe did not read this book, we barely heard about it now, 2016.
