This seems a little like a copy of The Tome of Bill vampire books, which I loved. Is this the same thing or different enough to be enjoyable?

I have never read the Bill books, but as I understand from the listings, they're a snarky take on genuine supernatural/horror themes. By contrast, Joe is a comedic character study of an average guy going through a ridiculous circumstance, but determined not to let it ruin his life. Other than Joe's vampirism and that of a select few other characters, there's nothing supernatural in the book at all; it's more about him trying to balance out his everyday life while being plagued by the vampire in his blood. Like the cover says, he's just a dude who'll never die, trying to figure out how to live.(less)
