He appeals to her acting expertise as well as her imagination. It is far from boring to me. She is conflicted about what he's doing, about her participation, and she just wants to run off with him and forget everything else. And yet, he still commands her imagination and her cooperation. What a fascinating interplay between the two! But if you prefer your espionage novels to be plot-directed rather than character-driven, then I can understand that Le Carre's fiction would bore you. He's trying to answer the question, why do people do these things? He's not a writer who's really into spiffy gadgets, lots of action (although when the action happens, it's intense), glamorous espionage, etc. Sorry you're not enjoying this book.(less)
