I am more than thrilled that more female characters are being featured in current stories, though I have to admit sometimes I get the sense that authors are using this as a tool to sell more books. This makes me feel a bit troubled. Anyone else thinking about this?

But honestly, I don't think it's a prevailing issue in the industry. I don't think many authors are really into pandering. Well-written, diverse characters aren't hard to write, but they are hard to find, usually not through any fault of the author but the publisher going, "Hey, this won't sell." Want to see more female characters? Vote with your wallets.(less)

I disliked the Gone series (didn't like the writing style or the characters) but this book seems really interesting. Should I try reading it?
