DOC is a character-driven novel, while EPITAPH is intended to illuminate a particular historical event that, over time, has become almost mythological. For me, the character development was invaluable, but if people are most interested in learning the de-mythologized story of the gunfight at the OK Corral, I think they'd be fine just reading EPITAPH.(less)
