I haven't finished the book yet, but I'm surprised that the characters are able to carry around the 2 million British pounds of gold in a sack. Using the 1940 conversion rates of 1 British pound = $4.03, gold price of $33.85 per Troy ounce, and 14.58 Troy ounces per pound weight, that much gold would weigh 16,328 pounds (unless I made an error somewhere). Any comments?
