I've only started reading the book and it seems rather interesting, but just wondering if it would be appropriate for 9-10-year-olds? I feel like reading it to my class but I'm not sure if it'll be too disturbing. Thoughts?

Can anybody explain the Samantha/Samara thing? I really don't get it. And what exactly happens in the end? Does Sam die? And why?

I know that Myr is a travelling gatekeeper for the Wake. It is Myr's duty to keep it quarantined, but the emphasis on his colour is intriguing. Is the fact that he is black significant? Thank you.

Did anyone else find the writing a little on the simple side? I am only a hundred pages in and will have a more balanced view once I have completed the novel. But so far it is reading a little like a Richard Laymon. Very simple characters with no substance and very little in the way of background. The scene where William says "OK you can be the leader" felt very clumsy and ultimately unrealistic.
