Pretty photographs and the author's (who describes himself as a tourist) commentary displays empathy to the subject matter.

Cons: It is a broad overview for people who don't know much about Indian history from the perspective of a tourist. Also, despite it's breadth it is also a really big book that's awkward to carry around; definitely something you have to read at home. (less)
