Did anybody have to force themselves to finish the book?

Betty Myers 100%! I was very annoyed with the seeming lack of direction for so long. So glad to see that so many others felt the same way.

(Spoiler question) Was anybody else struck but the fact that (young) Mariamma was half Scottish/half Indian and nobody ever noticed this? Genes can mix and match in different ways, but Anglo-Indians have a history of being well-recognized in India.

I was listening to the audiobook and feel like I missed something about Baby Ninan’s death. Was it just that he fell while climbing in the partially removed tree? Or did water somehow come into play?

I loved the book. And I always love a map in a book. But did anyone else notice that almost none of the places mentioned are on the map? I know the reason - many of the places are fictional. But if you’re going to include a map figure something out - maybe a map like the one presented for the real places and an insert for all the fictional places mentioned? It would have enhanced the reading so much!

It’s just that so many of the towns where things took place are no longer called that (Cochin is now modern-day Kochi) or the towns are so tiny that they’re not on the map. I could be wrong though!
