In this novel, the main character leaves her job as a maid in Australia and travels all the way to a tiny country called Armenia to find the father of her child. What makes the risk extraordinary is that she doesn't speak of word of Armenian and can barely locate it on the map. It's an extremely dangerous part of the world in 1939. Would you take this risk if you were in her shoes?
