It's not a question, but I was blown away by the fact that the author had never even visited Leningrad before she wrote the book. Quite a feat. How many other writers could do something like this?

Ruth Bonetti It is amazing! I read this book before visiting the Hermitage, and am now rereading it with new perspective.

I've just re-read the wonderfully written "City of Thieves" by David Benioff, thinking that it was the one that described the members of the Leningrad Orchestra playing music when they were almost starving, and that they played Schostakovich. But it wasn't in that book. I also read "Madonnas of Leningrad a few years ago, but before I re-read it, can tell me if the Orchestra thing is in it? What book is it in???
