Though your question had no implicit judgement, I feel I should reassure you that there is plenty of both in subsequent books. Plus a load of violence... and spiders, there are spiders.

Benedict Heuff Yes every chapter is told by a different character though you do often return to previous characters or the people surrounding them

Is there any action? After having gotten bored a tenth of the way through A Storm of Swords due to it's (and the series as a whole, as far as I can tell) lack of plot movement and proper action, I've got an itch that, if anything, George R.R. Martin made more irritating.

(which is a good thing.)(less)
