If the young Dick Gregory really was so poor and hungry, how come he refused a free Turkey one Thanksgiving just because he didn't have an oven? That always bothered me. A truly starving person would have figured something out. What am I missing?

Hmm...that’s very weird to concern yourself over his choice to ALLOW another person to be blessed with that turkey. It would appear to me that that (child) was using critical thinking skills, he knew his mother could not cook it nor did she have the time because she was working many hours at the “white people’s”home. However, what’s disturbing to me is that YOU were bothered by the turkey story and not by the story which Gregory the child was KICKED in his mouth and beaten-up by a grown man ( a white man) in the bar because he was earning money as a shoe shine kid!!
