If this is canonical and part of a 'trilogy', why does it contradict the contents of River of Pain & the Aliens film? In the latter two Ripley doesn't wake up between Nostromo & Earth, the blurb for this is suggesting she does?

Can I read this book without having seen the movies?

It says that this is from the "canonical" trilogy...Does that mean that the rest of the Aliens novels aren't canon anymore? I know that the Predator crossover installments are no longer /technically canon/, but what about the updated novelizations of the comics? They were purposefully reworked so that they'd fit in the canon with the changed names. Which books are still canon, and what order are they in?
