Carolina Nabuco herself made the translation and sent copies to various agents. One of them was Daphne Du Maurier's agent. It is possible that Du Maurier never knew about Nabuco's book, but the agent gave her the main story to write about. If you read the two books it will be VERY clear that the story is the same, but the books are totally different. There is no mystery revealled in A Sucessora. She had to conquer her fears herself. To the readers who are looking for a thriller "A Sucessora" will be disappointing, but - for me, at least - Nabuco's book has a deeper meaning.(less)
