Can this be read without any previous Heinlein background? I see that events herein are foretold in a couple earlier books. Would I be better off reading Stranger in a Strange Land first, then Revolt in 2100, before reading Methuselah's Children? My main goal is to read Time Enough for Love because I read an article in which it was described as a book including one of the first sympathetic portrayal of gays in SF.

If you can get your hands on a copy of "The Past Through Tomorrow", it contains Revolt in 2100 (under the original title "Coventry") and Methusala's Children, as well as a story about a secondary but important character in Methusala's Children. And a bunch of other universe-building stories that are fun to read as well.(less)
