I see a lot of people on Goodreads reading this novel. Is it really "better than the movie?" I'm skeptical about a novelization of something that was just supposed to be a movie. That scene in the beginning of the movie where we just see the outside of the Enterprise for 45 mins is, well, er. .. interesting enough visually (it was boring as a visual device) but how does one turn that into a compelling narrative?

And, if not better, it certainly is an excellent complementary to the movie. I really pays out to read the book even if you watched the movie yesterday. Maybe even especially then :) (less)

Unanswered Questions (1)

Is anyone here convinced that Gene Roddenberry actually wrote this novel? I'm on the fence about it. I can see a valid argument for whether he did or not. Objectively speaking, I've found more clear evidence that he did indeed write this. Subjectively, though, I'm skeptical whenever I see something like this, knowing that Alan Dean Foster had ghostwritten for George Lucas the novelization of Star Wars: A New Hope.
