So this edition present the tetralogy in order of the stories' internal chronologies instead of publication order. Which is the proper way to read the series?

My understanding is that these novels were actually written backwards, with respect to the chronology of the origin/source material of the Mabinogion. Should this series be read in the order the author wrote them in, or in the order of the actual Mabinogion? Thx

I was wondering if I should read this adaptation or the original Mabinogion? Is the language of the original one too old and the narration too dry? Is this one more interesting and enthralling?
