If you grew up in the 60's and 70's it may be an even more powerful experience for the reader. A perfect work of literature it may not be. But it grabbed me in a way that very few books have. Jack is still living in Rome with his daughter. My feeling, so far, is that "beach music" must refer to the time when the group of friends was at the house on the beach in high school and they would dance to their music. Being part of the group has affected all of their lives, so far. That group identified with their music and time at the beach house. Their feelings from being a group of close-knit friends has held them together into later adulthood.(less)
