I like to attribute being a tomboy to strength and toughness, not to ugliness, so although there are moments when others try to push the protagonist into more of a feminine role, she doesn't really become more feminine, at least not like characters I've read from other books (tomboys who start wearing makeup and girlie clothes or who become models, etc.). If anything, the protagonist learns to appreciate girls and is able to relate to them better, but no, she does not give up her tomboyness, sacrificing her true self, and go to the "dark side." :) I hope that helps.
