Would this book interesting for a non-American reader? Often these histories are pitched at an American audience, so either too much detail is given or sometimes not enough explanation or context is included. So is this a universal book or do I need to know some US history basics to understand and enjoy it?

It's not a hagiography by any means but tries to but John D. in context.(less)
