Jennifer Juniper I agree with Jami--you do not necessarily have to read the first one in order to read this one as the author does give a decent recap of the first boo…moreI agree with Jami--you do not necessarily have to read the first one in order to read this one as the author does give a decent recap of the first book here, however there may be certain pieces of the story that don't mean as much to you and you may not necessarily know the "why" behind a character's motivation. I will say that this book has been much tougher for me to get through--it is choppy and simply does not flow as well as the first one. Had I not read the first one and started here, there is no way I would put myself through finishing it.

I will say that the first book is much better (IMO), so you would be doing yourself a disservice by skipping it and reading this one instead. =/(less)
