I found both books to be fine in terms of passing time and intended them to be used a leisurely read.

Both had a handful of characters , almost too many, to keep straight in my opinion. I think it just depends on how much you're hoping to get out of the book. Not sure if that helps at all. (less)

The author shows absolutely no signs of knowing anything about the Black Country or having done any research whatsoever and thinks Wolverhampton is named after wolves that still roamed the land at the end of the 19th century! (They didn't!) Not only that, the plot is somehow simultaneously convoluted and full of holes. A major, major local character is killed off halfway through and nobody, absolutely nobody notices he is missing or asks where he is!

I would avoid this book at all costs!(less)
