When Graham Greene was alive, it was very common for books published simultaneously in Britain and the United States to have different titles. (This happened as recently as 1997, when the US version of JK Rowling's "Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone" gave it the title "Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone." At some point, the British title replaced the US title. It is no longer published as "This Gun For Hire."(less)

The second words out of his mouth is a lie. He and his "wife," Tiny, are at the least culpable of abetting theft, perhaps murder, and certainly prostitution. (less)
