I read two chapters and I'm already sick of Allanon going on & on & on expounding about history. It already felt contrived so any goodwill from reading it as a pre-teen is up in smoke. Worth continuing?

So I watched the first two episodes of the TV series and it seemed like a good plot so as usual I thought I should read the book as it is bound to be better. So my question: Worth the read or not? (keeping in mind I am not a teenager). If not, Any of them worth the read?

I've always loved Terry Brooks's books when I was younger he was one of the authors for which kept me hooked on Fantasy fiction In spite of the history lesson, which I personally thought added depth to the storyline; from Alanon, it is an excellent trilogy. Now I've added a few more of his to my kindle and was wondering if the "Heritage Of Shannara would be the next one in line that I would read?

Are there any hints in this book that it would be post-apocalyptic in any way? Like it is shown in the series, the world of the Shannara exists on the ruins of our civilization?
