"EC" is a abridged version (391 pp) of "CSM" (680 pp) without the 160 pages of footnotes and 30 page bibliography. There are some minor errors in the tetragram chart and some differences in the divination instructions. "CSM" is a work by, and primarily intended for, specialists in classical (Han-era) Chinese philosophy, whereas "EC" is aimed at an educated general reader. Being familiar with the I Ching helps, as the Tai Xuan Ching is a similar kind of literary object.(less)
