Mr. Tuten has a great handle on lovely prose, but the story meandered and the characters did not feel genuine. I hate to say this, but this book reads like really bad fanfic. (And that comes from someone who loves fanfic and has written Tintin fanfic.) There were entire sections that I felt could have been cut with no detriment to the story, but then, there wasn't much of a story in place. There are elements of one, but the narrative is disjointed and bizarre. (There's about 100 pages of a "dream sequence" that has no bearing on the plot.)

Honestly, if you're an avid Tintin fan and are in the mood for something strange, it might be interesting to pick up from your local library or used bookstore. (That's what I did.) But if you want to read something that captures Tintin's spirit...read the comics again. ;) (less)
