Sometimes those Pulitzer Prize winners are a “challenge” to read, but this one was such a good choice. Readable, relatable, and even relevant to what is happening right now in the US where it seems some attitudes haven’t changed since the Civil War Days. Didn’t the North win?

Anyway, I’m with you on this one. (less)

The Nimshi seemed to be in conflict with the evil King Ahab you read about in Chronicles and Kings in the OT. Thus, since March was seemingly hated by his own strict scripture-quoting father, I'd guess that a "Loping Nimshi" is indeed the father's derogatory term for March--perhaps that March is such a hard-headed, stubborn, and "crazily" principled fool that he'd not think twice about "loping" or chasing after the likes of King Ahab himself--even if it didn't make sense or if he'd die doing so. This explanation satisfies me and the sort of man March is, but I would love to hear or see another idea on "loping nimshi." I'd especially love to hear Geraldine Brooks explain what she meant!(less)
