Generally speaking, the author says assholes don't often change their behavior, so it's frustrating and futile to expect otherwise regardless of our response. At the same time, it's important at times to not allow them to treat you with disrespect (mostly to preserve your own self respect regardless how it impacts their behavior or attitudes). But in the end, an asshole is an asshole is an.... so don't take it personally.(less)
