I read up to 30% of the book but I am having trouble understanding the concepts and the book. Can a layman to psychology understand this book or are there some prerequisites?

His view of the unconscious was confusing and muddled sometimes, and it takes a good scholar to explain the distinctions and some of the definitional changes that Freud seemed to make arbitrarily throughout his career.
