There are some graphic descriptions of people wounded in war as well as mention of an abortion, instances of one night stands and implied lesbianism. Smith presents it in an impressively balanced way that doesn't sugarcoat but also doesn't shove shock value down the reader's throat. Older teens could probably handle it but parents might want to do a read-through before deciding if they want their younger teens reading it. (less)
