joey My edition has a preface by Suzuki, in which he states, "The articles collected here were originally written for the New East, which was published in …moreMy edition has a preface by Suzuki, in which he states, "The articles collected here were originally written for the New East, which was published in Japan during the 1914 War under the editorship of Mr. Robertson Scott." He describes making light revisions, but does not mention translation. And if you search Google for "new east" and "robertson scott", you can see that the journal is in English.

Possibly, Suzuki wrote about the same topics in Japanese too, but this was a shortened version of his Zen Essays, First Series, which were intentionally written to introduce Zen Buddhism to a Western, academic audience.(less)
