Should I read “Look homeward, Angel” first or the order in which these two novels are read is irrelevant? Thank you.

I thought Look Homeward Angel was a great novel, but at page 34 in Of Time and the River I find myself wondering if I can possibly continue with this overwrought writing. Does it get better soon? The Goodreads rating is even better than that of Look Homeward Angel, but so far it's just a slog to keep reading. Any thoughts?
