Am I the only one that is just reading this book to find out the answer to the plot of who did it? I've never read a book before that I have to force myself to wade thru. What a repulsive leading character. The writing is equally bad, going from one thought to another in no coherent way. Oy.

I wasn't too excited about The Woman and the Ape. I admired the ideas and imagination, but I didn't really like the language, and the wittiness sometimes irritated me. Still I'm a bit curious of his other works, and especially this one. Do you think this one could appeal another type of reader than The Woman...? Or is the style very similar?

Why is this a million copy best-seller? I am only half way through and increasingly frustrated by the erratic writing which jumps from thought to thought with no connection - is this supposed to be really clever?? I only want to know who killed Isaiah and why and I won't give up. It is like wading through treacle. Maybe Peter Hoeg should have remained a sailor!
