So far it is child safe, but your son may be bored. The first hundred pages focus very heavily on the housing market of the area that the MC lives.

The MC's dad is cheating, but that is mentioned. There are no sex scenes or graphic descriptions of things. It is very matter of fact. The creatures from the other dimension/realm might be a bit scary. (less)

I would check into books like Ready Player One and other books that are labeled as LitRPGs.

If you just want the fantasy aspects, I would recommend The Land of Stories or The Divide. (less)
