If they are world savvy and have been exposed to death, destruction, and worldly human struggles, then reading through this with an adult could be a great way to introduce him/her to the global needs beyond American experience. If they are more sheltered and innocent, I advise the adult to read it first, to make sure the adult knows all that the 7th grader will encounter in this. If it were a movie by today’s standards, it would be PG to PG 13 depending on how the violence was handled. It is excellent and raw and inspiring. (less)
