Julia I'm very late to answer this, but if you read the story once again, you'll see that one of the men (probably Grigsby) mentions that he believes the pa…moreI'm very late to answer this, but if you read the story once again, you'll see that one of the men (probably Grigsby) mentions that he believes the painting on display is not the original, since the original was painted on wood long ago, and this one is on canvas. So Bradbury did know, but used a canvas replacement for the purposes of his story.(less)
