It's the book that Die Hard was based on but besides the fact both were turned into action film franchises they are both survival/adventure stories with lots of violence and similar tones. Both darker than the films they inspired. Though one is in an office building and the other in the woods they feel very much alike. I feel like it's also in the same ballpark as The Running Man by Stephen King (as Richard Bachman) also turned into a movie but very different as this about a guy who allows himself to be the target of a nationwide manhunt for a TV show with a potential prize.
