I’m looking for a fantasy book I read as a child, where parts of it were on a ship in cold weather, with a viking-like race in warm animal fur coats. And that maybe “Silver” was in the title (but maybe not). And perhaps references to the northern Lights. I’m wondering now is it one of The Dark Is Rising Sequence novels. Does anyone think this could be it??

I want to buy Over Sea, Under Stone (because of the half-price offer by Folio Society). Can I simply stop after this book and feel contented, or will I be forever gnawed by an insatiable craving to read on? Are the subsequent titles connected to the first book?
