Do you have to read the other books to fully understand the story, plot and etc or do you don't need to because these are seperate and different storylines per book?

I picked this up at a cabin on vacation and jumped in blindly (I didn't even realize it was #7 until I got home and searched it). I think mostly just Father John O'Malley and Arapaho lawyer Vicky Holden appear throughout the series. It alluded to an incident in the previous book; otherwise pretty much a standalone.(less)
