I read 'A Winter Haunting' before realizing it was the sequel. Can I still enjoy reading 'Summer of Night' anyway, or has the entire premise been ruined?

I am from Central Illinois, and I know that Elm Haven represents Brimfield, IL, and—I assume—that Oak Hill is actually Elmwood. Does anyone know if there is a list or a map that someone could use for a Summer of Night “tour” or at least to get an idea of places that the author is referring to in the book? I tried the Brimfield Library...no luck! My book club is curious!

With so many weird evil creatures (both alive and undead) it could maybe be assumed that this was a test by Dr. Roon to create an evil creature or maybe to bring a dead creature back to life?
As in test things out on a monkey before trying on a human?
Never discussed again though so this is just conjecture on my part. Good question.(less)

Sharon Grutsch Boy’s Life by Robert McCammon. Been a lot of years since I read it but I remember it had a similar vibe.

It does have some pretty graphic depictions of characters being killed or hurt. It can get a little spooky at times too. (less)
