According to my find, a merchant named John Burcher wrote a letter to inform the great events that happened throughout England after Edward's death. In the letter, he mentioned that his Majesty's hair and nails fell out before his death, which could have been detected as a result of poison ingestion. He also stated that Northumberland ordered the murder of a boy whose visual features are similar to that of Edward's so that he could cover up his attempt to prolong the king's life, and that no one would notice the state of Edward's body upon burial. We do not know how reliable his words are as Northumberland was a much disliked figure across the realm and many may assume that he committed such action upon the king. It is also expected for his hair and nails to fall out because his illness progressed so far that his body cannot hold enough nutrients in order to keep his hair and nails healthily intact. I would like to believe that what was mentioned in the book was not the case (I also read the book), and I was definitely shocked with anger at the thought of this becoming real. As a result, I do hope and trust that Edward VI was in fact laid to rest among his ancestors as it is his rightful place of burial. (less)
