I recently started watching the Netflix Series on these books and I love it. I didn't realize they were books till recently, so now I want to read them. I was wondering do we get to learn more about Henry Standing Bear in the novels than we do in the Netflix Series? (I am aware there might be a lot of changes between the two mediums.)

How does Lonnie loose his legs?
Linda Diabetes. It was another character, Lucian, who was shot and they amputated one leg. Lonnie had diabetes.

Meredith Pretty strong at times. The narrator is mild mannered, but he works with several people throughout that are foul-mouthed. His deputy especially.

I'm currently watching (and thoroughly enjoying) the series on Netflix, who picked it up from A&E. The writing is amazing, setting it apart from everything else on Netflix. I have noticed a slight bit of magical realism in the show and I wonder if this is found in the novels?

Interestingly, the author says that some western cliche's and stereotypes are just too large to try and dismiss or rationalize, and the author trusts the reader to laugh them off or appreciate them as is appropriate.
