John General relativity presents space and time as dynamical in the same sense as particles and the electromagnetic field: space-time propagates, twists, t…moreGeneral relativity presents space and time as dynamical in the same sense as particles and the electromagnetic field: space-time propagates, twists, turns, expands, contracts -- and becomes singular at the center of a black hole when the black hole forms. Once a particle falls into a black hole, forward in time is toward the center and singularity.

General relativity doesn't tell us what happens to a particle at the singularity. I view the singularity at the center of the black hole as a defect in the theory, hopefully corrected by quantum gravity or a more accurate theory.(less)
