Am I the only one that raised my eyebrows at the description of working in the potato fields as a child? Page 72 states: You picked the spuds by hand, getting only 8 to 10 cents for a bushel. My job when I was small was to run up ahead and shake the spuds loose from the vines so the others could come along and pick them up more quickly. I'm a gardener and I have never seen a potato that grows on a vine.

My parents have potatoes in their home garden, and Dad will plow beside the rows, which makes them easier to dig and pick up. (less)
