He is called names by those insiders who want his job, he does have some indecisive moments, however he ends the year and moves into 1777 with strong decisive strikes against the enemy. Remember however, the war doesn't end until 1783 and Washington remains faithful in the war, he sacrifices much for his country, we learn that without him, we surely would not have won the war. It tells the tale of 1778-1781 so essentially the second half of the war.
