The author clarifies at his own back cover that: "This men's club is actually a metaphor, it's the narrator's mind, it's the whole process of storytelling". so don't try to find a usual book club because It's all based on a metaphor. So the batler, the door, the bumb heard and for me even the fire has a direct connection to the mind. When I read it, I compose every single detail that you point and in my mind I pictured the thinking of the author and if you combine these details they create the soul and the mind of a human. My personal opinion is that you should give it a second chance and read it again and then you will see the deeper meaning. Sometimes to really understand a book needs to read it more than one. I hope that I helped you and don't forget: "HISTORY IS IMPORTANT, NOT THE ONE WHO NARRATES IT".(less)
