More comment than question. I'm 1/2 way through this book and being reminded of clan of the cave bear series?

Bill Jenkins Clan of the Cave Bear is far better than this story.

There's a reference to bamboo driftwood being used to bail boats. I can't imagine the author throwing this in if it doesn't happen, but I have to ask - is it common for bamboo to wash up in the Aleutians?

Bill Jenkins All kinds of stuff washes up on the Pacific shores. There have been cases of Asian flotsam and jetsam coming ashore everywhere.
