Unanswered Questions (1)

It seems strange, to me at least, that in the Picador / Pan (Macmillan) edition though the page number of every chapter is given in their contents lists, there's no stand-alone index to say where each novel begins. If memory serves me well, the same is the case with their 'Five Great Novels of James M. Cain'. Anyone have thoughts on this, or indeed either collection ? Thanks.
